In an analytics-driven world, managers today are faced with access to increasing volumes of data that can be vital to their company’s future success. A strategic data-driven organization begins with asking the right business questions. The data architecture must be developed so that the data are properly collected, stored and secured. Leading with analytics requires a comprehensive understanding of the landscape of analytics tools which find applications in solving business problems. Finally, for business leaders charged with creating or leading an analytics team, it’s also critical to understand the key factors that influence the team’s effectiveness.

This program introduces current thinking on how to determine the right questions and how to assess where an organization is on the analytical competitiveness spectrum. Discussions will address how data architecture affects the total cost of an organization’s investment in analytics. Participants will learn the categories of analytics tools and how to choose those that are appropriate to address varied types of strategic questions.The session concludes with a review of the “Analytics Triangle,” the right mix of corporate culture, staffing and organizational alignment to drive real business outcomes. Participants will learn techniques to assess and ultimately drive improvements to harness the true potential of their analytics teams.

DR. SHANNON SCHLUETER

Dr. Shannon Schlueter is a lifelong technologist who joined the UNC Charlotte faulty in 2009 after receiving his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from Iowa State University where he was an NSF-IGERT research fellow. In addition to his active publishing contributions to the field of bioinformatics, Dr. Schlueter is a frequent national and international conference speaker. His research expertise includes applied statistical modeling, information technology and machine learning.
